Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The therapist lays their hands over and on you; sometimes only touching your head, shoulders, back, knees and feet.

Reiki is based on the concept of energy flow through our bodies. If our energy is low we are more likely to fall sick or feel stressed. As modern medicine has identified stress as one of the main triggers for many illnesses, stress reduction is beneficial in preventing this and aiding the recovery process. Reiki is a holistic therapy, not based on religion with no contra-indications to modern orthodox treatments. It is thought by many to benefit the prevention and treatment of many medical and emotional problems.

Reiki feels like a deeply relaxing moment in time, treating the whole person; body, emotions and mind. It often creates a feeling of wellbeing, peace and security.

What to expect when attending a Reiki treatment

There will be a consultation for your medical history to be recorded and you will be asked what you hope to achieve from your Reiki treatment. All details given are strictly confidential. You will then be treated either in a chair or lying on a treatment table. You do not need to undress but will be offered a blanket. Many people fall into a healing and restful sleep during the treatment. The therapist usually touches your shoulders, head, neck, back, knees and feet. She will also hover her hands over the rest of your body.

What to expect after the treatment

After a treatment clients usually experience a feeling of peace, relaxation or can sometimes be filled with energy. Mostly clients report feeling sleepy, rested and frequently have a good night’s sleep following. Some clients occasionally experience flu type symptoms and more rarely, tearful or angry. This is nothing to be concerned about, it is the ‘whole person’ rebalancing and healing. Symptoms are short lived, usually less than 24 hours. It is advisable to plan a quiet day after a treatment and drink plenty of water.

How many treatments are required?

It is recommended clients receive one treatment a week for four to six weeks. After which time, ideally one treatment a month is recommended to help ensure continued relaxation, health and balance.
